Investing started for me at 19 - I put some money into a cash ISA. I withdrew it after about a year - made a small amount. But it taught me far more.
Which was the principle of long-term investing. A principle which in and off itself is the core foundation to all successful investment stories. Buy, Hold, Hold, Hold, Buy - (or something like that)
Growing up, my parents instilled in me a strong & healthy mindset with money, two experienced doctors who had made a living which afforded their kids the ability to travel and experience life without too many restrictions.
But they also taught me money should be worked for and never handed to you on a plate.
Fast forward to my working career, working with clients in the Financial Services arena, gave me a broad understanding of financial concepts. I spent time often on weekends reading up on topics around ‘how to invest, budgeting principles, understanding the stock market, even how to avoid tax (in a legal way of course). Certain concepts stuck with me, for example
If I invest X now, it can compound and provide me Y in the future, without really any effort - passive income sounded great.
All I needed was a steady, growing income and the rest would be down to the markets and asset managers (Hopefully they do me justice).
